When you pull off the wires there is a metal spring clip on the plug so be genteel.

Cheers J, the level are fine, will swap the switch and let you know how i get on.

Just been getting annoyed a bit with the beast, have had it 18 months, only done about 6K miles and I must have spent 3K on servicing, mot and repair.......BRING BACK THE TWON!

You're having a laugh Ritchie ??

3k in 18months ?

Think I'll stick with the AT
Sorry to hear of your troubles, must be a bit of a bitch to have to keep churning out the cash , guess once you go deep, you can't really pull out :(

Top Tip: Wiggle some wires before having a rant about how crap BMWs are on this forum.

The new oil pressure sensor arrived yesterday so I thought I would replace it this morning. It would need to be a deep socket job as a spanner wouldn't cut it given how deeply recessed it was. Also a tiny space to work in given my massive ape-hands. Now I have about 50 billion different sockets and, guess what? It was a size that I didn't have....

...anyway, before knocking on the neighbour's door to borrow the correct size I thought I would just unplug the sensor cable, wiggle the wires about a bit, and then plug it back in. Started her up and no warning lamp. Just done a 10 mile check ride and the lamp hasn't come back on.

Morale of the story? Check the simple things first, get advice from your muckers on this forum (cheers chaps) and avoid costly BMW dealers for advice (that's another long story for another day), and don't rant immediately it goes wrong.

Next task is replacing the centre stand spring that I ordered with the sensor. Probably a simple job that'll take me ages and result in some pinched skin and sore knuckles! :D

Great outcome Richie but I would also be wondering why the connector came loose in the first place. Is it the connector or a damaged wire? Make sure the connector is on properly and clipped in or however it does it and then get some WD40 on it or ACF50 or something. Run the engine and waggle the connector and wires to see if you can get the light to come on. Check it from time to time until you are happy it is all secure. Then, you can be really worried when the light comes on next time ;)

Top tip: Pennies.

Bend the spring, stick a penny in the gap. Bend the other way, repeat, etc. Then when it's mounted yank 'em all out with some pliers.

It all seems fine, not loose or frayed but will keep a close eye out in the future!

Saw some similar advice on GSer, will give it a shot, cheers!

Alternatively, vise grips on one end makes a decent handle. Did mine that way, hook one end in, grips on the other end and just pull. 10 second job. :)
