A Honda 1983 VT500E project possible Classic V Twin or Flat tracker style
The bike is a Honda VT500E the ancestor of the stagger crank V twins (Africa Twin, XLV750, Transalp etc) it is 6 speed gearbox and shaft drive..
The engine and transmission are standard, engine turns over on the starter motor using jump leads and has compression, I have not tried to run it. The previous owner had been running it.
I had originally brought it as spares for another VT500 but did not need it and I thought it was too good to break so started making a retro styled V Twin out of it but as is often the case I have run out of space so it has to go.
Examples of what I was thinking of doing are shown in the last picture NOTE these are not the bike for sale!
What I have done
The original large air filter assembly has been replaced by new cone filters, original supplied
The exhaust system has been replaced by a 2 into 1 system using headers from a VT500C and a RH silencer from a Suzuki 4.
The instruments and headlight assembly have been replaced by a set believed to be from a Honda 250 custom twin.
Aluminium side panels and seat cowl have been fabricated and a flat track seat unit has been modified to fit the VT500. I was undecided about style (flat track seat) or function (original seat) so made both.
LED tail light assembly fitted.
Note that the mudguard and tank are painted with primer and the aluminium panels are unpainted natural finish, not polished
Aluminium Renthal style handlebars with the standard Honda switchgear.
Forks fitted with new seals and gaiters and new front disk pads.
Centre stand removed but can be refitted and is supplied.
All electrics CDIs, reg/rec, switches and loom are supplied fitted most components are plugged into the loom.
The bike comes with the spares shown in the pictures including a new rev counter cable and some Honda tank transfers.
A CD containing digital copies of the Honda VT500 workshop manual, parts list and some articles downloaded from the internet will be supplied with the bike along with the V5.
The numbers on the bike correspond to the V5 and the bike is currently on SORN..
Inspection is recommended, the bike may be viewed daytime, evenings or weekends, with prior notice I can be home most times as I am retired, although it is the holiday season at the moment!
