Spot/running lights Africa Twin

I have bought a pair of spot/running lights for my Africa Twin RD07a and they have H3 55w halogen bulbs fitted. Will the bikes electrics be able to cope with 2 extra 55w bulbs? It's running all standard electrics. It's not the end of the world if not because I can get LED H3 bulbs,i was going to use a voltage sensitive relay to run them so they only come on when the engine is running and above 13 volts.Any input/advice appreciated.

That's a very good question. The alternator output on the AT is 360 Watts at 5,000 rpm. Now all we nned to do is to add up the loading of the standard electrical system.

Headlight - 2 x 60 W (Main Beams) Both headlights on together, so then 120 W.
Sidelight - 5 W
Brake Light - 21 W
Indicators - 2 x 21 W or 42 W
Indicator warning light - 3 W
High Beam warning light - 3 W

So that's a possible 194 watts - so long as you have High beam on, are braking and indicating. ;)

Then there's the load taken by the ignition system, which I haven't clue as to what it might be.

Adding another 110 Watts on top, well you might be okay. The voltage sensitive relay is a good idea.

I run 35w H3's in my aux lights on the @ and have never had a problem. Did think the normal 55w H3's would be taking the lectrics a bit near the edge, hence the 35w bulbs.

LED H3's! Where might one find those then, pretty please. I reckon LED lights are more noticable than normal filamets bulbs, even different "temp" ones, so would be keen to sample some LED H3's for the other lamps I have sitting around the garage. Could turn the @ into a scooter-look-a-like, with light stacks on either side of the headlight :eekicon:

I'm running Vision X Solstice Cree LEDs

10 watts each (100 watts equivalent)

They are so efficient they will run off solar power
