Taking my XBR 500 to bits.

This might take a wee while to clean up. ;)

Finished stripping the frame tonight only to find that the swingarm has got a bit of metalworm. :( Not to worry, I have plenty of time to search for another one. :)

Andy.

Wow you're not taking half measures there ... You'll not be bored this winter ....

sent from my rotary phone ....

Errr, that looks like you got carried away a bit there Andy. :D

Do keep us informed - and with plenty of photos.

Just in case I never get it done, it used to look like this. ;)

But hopefully it will look even better when I am finished with it.

I have done a bit more tinkering this week, taking some sub assemblies apart to clean, looking on tinternet for stuff, and just faffing about really. ;)

Here is a shot of the swingarm showing the rot, but not to worry as my pet metal guru reckons it will fix. :)

Another thing here is the worst bodge I think I have ever seen. The mounting bracket for the rear of the mudguard and the seat surround should look like this (without the rust) of course.

Sometime in the past someone has replaced a knackered bracket on the other side with this! :eekicon:

I mean, if you are going to do something why not do it properly, more work for the metal guru methinks. :D

Oh, by the way, if anyone knows where I can get the shaft that goes through the centrestand let me know as they seem to be made of unobtanium. :(

Andy.

FFS Andy, that looks like serious sh1t, how did it manage to get like that ????

Yeh I know some of these metal guys can turn most things around.

Keep us updated

Oops puleeeezzzee :p

Andy, it might be less grief to find an engineering shop to turn you up a new centre-stand shaft.

What state is the original? Could you get any measurements from it?

I was thinking the same thing after I wrote the last post. The bit in question is just a glorified bit of steel tubing with a flange on one end and a hole for a split pin on the other, might have a word with the fabricator chappie at work. :)

And this is why I prefer to buy new and ride the f۩+ۨ into the ground! From the 'before' photo it looked rather smart!
