Vara front disks.

OK, this may be a stupid question....

When replacing the front brake disks on a big Vara, can the job be done with the wheel in situ, or
does it "have" to be done with the wheel off the bike?

I think you need to remove the wheel in order to remove the discs - at the very least I wouldn't want to torque the bolts back up without the wheel held firm. It's not very hard to do and you don't even need a bike lift (just the bike on the center stand and some weight on the back).

Physical imposibilty to to replace Discs with wheel still on , cos you aint gonna cut em in half and weld em back together, and they are round things with holes in the middle that the spindle goes through, u8nless you wanna remove for legs on at a time and leave wheel hanging on one fork leg , get wheel off , lay on the ground oif the bolts are stubborn apply a little heat with a heat gun , they maybe held in woth thread lock and bit of heat will free that , use thread lock to do em up again

I think a lack of clarity didn't do me any favours in the looking blond dept.

Without access to a work bench or anything similar, would it be easier to remove the retaining bolts with the wheel in situ, then remove the wheel, and reverse that for putting it back on.... or as Img says, is it easier to remove the bolts with the wheel off.

Keep the tyre on the wheel and place wheel upright against a wall so that when you whack the socket/spanner you have on the disk bolts it is pushing the wheel against the wall. That's how I did my Transalps disks.

Hi Chris, they can be slackened with wheel on or off the bike.
The secret it to have them solid and use an impact driver to get the allen bolts turning. Just relying on a cheapy allen key is a sure fire way to rounding them ;)
