Matey boy has just bought a new 1050, it looks a decent bit of kit without going ott.
Browsing the owners handbook was a revelation - KTM give you all the torque settings, suspension settings like fork oil, level and spring rate. Even shock oil viscosity.
Much better than the usual 'take it to your nearest dealer' blurb.
Even the service schedule & maintenance times are fairly minimal (about 1/3 the time to service a Tiger 800 for example).

However, the engine sounds like a bag of spanners. To say it sounds like a tractor would be insulting to tractors (and I've driven plenty).
Is this normal?

I was thinking something like that could be a future 'maybe' but I hate rough clattery sounding engines so maybe not :(

Hopefully blag a spin another time [emoji6]

Da Mounties one sounds a bit Ducatiesque, like it's going to let go . . . . . . but apparantly they all sound like that Sir. Quietens down a little when warmed up, but still sounds rattly when compared with . . . . . . . . almost any other V-twin engine, apart from dry clutch Dukes of course .

Doesn't stop it from taking off like a scalded cat though when the throttles open fully ;). You can't hear it rattle when your riding it, so go give it a squirt Phil, when the running in period is over

Having been over the bike a bit now with the spanners, I can say that it's well put together. Put a centre stand on it last night and I have never had an easier job, centre stand fitting wise. Very well engineered and thought out for ease of fitting - no skinned knuckles, so it must have been easy :D

Just my mutterings,

Steve T

Oh, don't worry Steve, I'll be blagging a go when the weather fares up again [emoji2]

They certainly look nicely engineered, no swingarm linkage to sieze, a decent flap to keep sh.. muck off the shock, a toothed bit to hold the chain for wheel removal, the proper detail in the handbook - lots of thoughtful touches.
Lets see how it fares!

Interesting, I don't think my 950 is as rattly as you describe. Maybe they're trying to copy BMW's a bit too much :taxi:

Not rattly as such Bob, more like generally harsh mechanical noise but I guess you know your way round KTMs more than most.

One of my mates had a 950 (yes, I have mates) Spawn of the devil it was, a nice Honda SP2 is something to behold in the world of v twins. :clapping:
