Hello again to all Big Trailie members

I have sadly been conspicuous by my absence from the forum and Big Trailie events for some time now. This is because I have not had any time lately for either getting out on the bike or for browsing the forum, as I have been very involved in caring for my elderly father who has been unwell and in need of support for some years now. Sadly, he passed away last week, one week after suffering a massive stroke. It has been a hugely difficult and sad time for me, but I am consoled by the thought that he is now in peace and his suffering has ended. The funeral takes place at the end of next week. There has been a lot to do (as ever in these situations) sorting out his affairs, but I am hoping to get back on the bike over the coming summer months, and to start making a contribution to the forum again (though hopefully not with my usual mis-adventures!).

Throughout the past difficult years my friend and fellow forum member, Chris X, has been by my side supporting me, including an all night vigil at the hospital during my father's last night on this planet. He also kept the home fires burning, dealing with much of the household tasks, and welcoming me home from the hospital with a much needed glass of wine when I was at my lowest ebb. I am eternally grateful to him and don't know how I would have managed without him. The good news in all this gloom is that we plan to get married at the end of August, and all Big Trailie members will be welcome to join us for a celebratory drink at the end of the day (if you arrive by bike the drink will be on us!!!). Details will be forthcoming soon.

So this is both a very sad post and a very optimistic one. We were hoping dad would be at the wedding, but we know that he was so happy that we had got together and were planning the marriage. He described Chris as an 'exceptional' person and he was right.

Apologies for a long and emotional post, but I wanted everyone to know why I had not been contributing to the forum or attending any BT events.
Love to all.

I have a family funeral on Monday - thankfully I am going with my dad.

Great to hear your positive news, though. I have no idea what I am doing in August but any excuse for a ride out might point me in your direction. Whether I make it or not, best of luck to you both.

Been through both in the last few years. Sympathies on your dads passing.

Congratulations to you both I'm sure you'll be extremely happy, although offering this lot free drinks may be a step too far , wait till Vader spots it.

Ah! Condolences for your dad, Lulu. Having trodden a similar pathway, I understand only too well the stresses, strain and loss that comes with that journey.... :(..

On the other hand - Congratulations on the happy news for you and Chris :)...that is lovely.
....and if able, would love to come and toast a glass of bubbly to you both on your special day.

Best wishes
Meesh

Condolences to both you and Chris, as he appears to have shared every tear by the sound of it :respect: , I wish you both great strength for the funeral.

Congratulations to you both, is this what he's had to do to be by your side rather than following you  Will this be the first Big Trailie Wedding of 2016, might be an excuse for a mini weekender  .

Good to know we'll be able to share your thoughts again on here - WELCOME BACK :mockery22:

Hi Lulu, Sorry for you and your family, but full of happiness for you both at the same time. Going through the same with my dad right now too and my other half lost her father 2 weeks ago. So I can relate a little to how you must be feeling. :(

You're such a lovely couple, I wish you both a great future together. Lovely too to know you are both still two wheelin' as well !

So sorry to hear the news about your father. Sounds from your post that your Dad was very proud of you and Chris. He must have felt content with what the future holds for you.
Time dulls the pain but not the memories. Remember the good times and recognise your devotion to him in his later years.
All the best for your future with Chris.

As previously said Lou,

Condolences and good wishes for the future, doesn't seem right in the same sentence does it ?
But you know what I mean.

I lost my Dad to a stroke, he lasted six long years, watched him to the end, not good, so I know where are coming from. Still think of him, he was my best mate.

Anyways, when's the p1ss up ? sorry wedding ???

All the best you two :thumbsupanim:
