Galloway 2014. - the aftermath

That worked out well :). For most of us anyway!!. The weather was kind to us: warm and dry in the day but a touch of frost on Friday night - the campfire was closely huddled around and we got through 4 sacks of logs. Much warmer on Saturday night - partly on account of the sack of coal Andy bought that soon saw a huge pile of glowing coals that were still hot in the morning.

Cumbria Twin -Richard was the first faller on the tracks taking a harmless rumble in a stretch of slippery overgrown twin track. The other faller was Bandit & son -Maurice & Jack who had a front wheel slide in a muddy bit by a logging site. Even though the bike needed to be lifted off Jack there was no damage to bodies but the left hand fairing panel on Maurice's transalp was pretty much totalled. Duct tape, some zip ties, and bit of leverage on the subframe got it back in place enough to ride it directly back to the campsite. Maurice celebrated with a lot of whisky later :).

Thanks to all who came and supported the event and thanks again for the whisky.

I forgot my camera and phone battery died so no prices from me but hopefully lots from everyone else.

Sent from my iPhone with a smile :)

Thanks for another great weekend Austin the little mishap on Saturday didn't spoil our enjoyment and if you organis this trip again we will come.
Apologies to everyone for being loud and late on Saturday night I really shouldn't drink whisky.

Here are a few pictures from the weekend.

Also a big thanks from me Austin, and it's true that Bandit should not drink whisky and get involved in late night (early morning) debates with Raymo. ;)
A few pics of the campsite before it filled up a bit.

I can not begin to imagine what Raymo is doing here.

The team getting ready for the off.

Sorry I did not take a picture of my bike loaded up with 20 kilos of coal as I thought I looked stupid enough strapping it on at the garage without having to share it with the world. :D
Already looking forward to the next outing, great weekend spent with great people. :)

Andy.

hows the back 'Swollen Knee' ( your indian name  )

yup another great Adventure.. appologies for being simple and taking the wrong exit ( not like I dont know the road!!! )

Many Thanks to one and all for another eventfull weekend....

bits of me ache that I didnt know I had :eekicon: !!!!

Bike held up well ... amazing that the old girl can take a beating like Galloway , then hit warp 1 fully loaded ( catching you guys up after the prick in a 4x4 minced things up on the M90 before Perth :)...

this bit :- :cool2:

The M90 here has another of the tightest corners on the UK motorway network, for which some traffic can be forced to slow down. The corner cuts through the northern side of the Ochil Hills and has a curve radius of 694.5 m (a recommended minimum of 914 m was standard practice at the time of construction). This corner also coincides with one of the steepest sections of the motorway, for which north-bound heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) are sign-posted to stay in a low gear and often brake continuously through the turn. South-bound HGVs are normally substantially reduced in speed as they make the incline.

not the best section for a 4x4 range rover thingie to pull out and then think ohh poo!! and brake in front of a fully loaded bike cranked over to take this long sweeping bend at 70mph :idea-013:

every mile an adventure

Wot a wonderful weekend that was!

270 odd miles there, 270 odd miles back and 120 odd miles in the middle . . . .with at least 80+ of those 120 off the beaten track

Great ride south via the “normal” route, then took the 702 all the way to New Galloway. That was followed by the 712 – the Queens Highway through Galloway forest, which never ever fails to make me grin like a little kid in a sweet shop, such are the number & type of bends to be experienced along its length from New Galloway to Newton Stewart.

Upon finding the campsite without a single U turn, we dodged the chickens, turkeys, ducks and rabbits to find a little band of brothers already on site, set up and slurping the first of many refreshments!

Campsite

The temperature dropped as the evening drew in, so the crowd that had grown to a dozen huddled round the camp fire seeking warmth & enlightenment in the flames of the fire . . . .but mainly warmth.

Saturday morning = Cold campsite

Saturday arrived as expected . . . after Friday and before Sunday . . . and once all sleepy heads were fed, watered and washed, the Man gave all in ear shot a brief on the days frivolities, and we departed for tracks a plenty.

Here is a screen shot of the routes taken during the day, missing out the boring black bits of course.

As has already been mentioned, a couple of “offs” occurred, but all remained able to walk and speak after each tumble, so as it says somewhere in some biking book – “Any off you can walk away from is a good one!”
Here a few photo’s from the days route . . . . .

Saturday evenings entertainment started off quite subdued, due to all that had partaken of the forest feeling slightly, what’s the word! Ah yes, KNACKERED. But once the fire water and the fire had warmed all that imbibed, much talk was talked about the days fun. Some kind souls at the other side of the camping field even started to entertain the whole of Dumfries & Galloway with their singing and “Amp’d up” guitar solo’s.

HUGE THANK YOU to the Man – Baron von Winckler, for yet again organising a hugely enjoyable and much appreciated get together and ride through the forest.

Already looking forward to the next one and planning my holidays to make sure I have spare days to enjoy another of Austins Adventures.
