Anybody who's travelling north past carlisle fancy meeting up for breakfast/lunch/whatever and then travelling on together?

Sounds like a good idea to me, the tea quotient will be low by Carlisle.

Red rooster in Penrith or Todhill services are the traditional meeting spots.

Desperately trying to get a Pass Out, but as I am back in the Highlands the following Friday with Herself for a 3 night break, I am having to really creep..... :)

I will know middle of next week Austin. Possibly have to be a hurtle up the M6 on Friday afternoon and back Sunday morning on the Vara, but I know what the Galloway potholes can do to a bike.... ;) The aim is to use the NX4 again as Carlisle is not too far, even at 60mph!

Hi Austin,

Count me in please Austin.

Cheque and Insurance in post. NB. Insurance expires 24/9/14, don't yet have new documents. Any advice ref satisfying Forestry Commission insurance needs at short notice?

Paul
I will need the one that is current on the 27th. Your insurance company should email you a copy upon renewal and just forward that to me. email address is in post #1

I know you dont like camping much and I had hoped to book the bothy at the campsite, still be good to have you along and in a tent :thumbsupanim:

Don't pander to his whims Austin, Paul coped quite happily in a tent for 5 nights in Spain last week!! ;)

He said he had never slept so well, the early bird was still "cutting wood" at 08.45 one morning.... :thumbsupanim:

I went up on a little Recce today to check out the campsite and familiarise myself with the roads, plus it was just a nice day for a ride. I had forgotten how nice Galloway is.

and I met one of these big bruisers who wasnt so keen on getting out the way

Anyway the campsite is going to be great I reckon. It's very Rustic and quirky with free range hens and shetland ponies roaming the site. There's numerous fire pits and BBQ points around the site and brill views all round. The weekend we are there the site is hosting a music weekend so if you can bring an instrument with you. No amps just guitars fiddles and stuff and plenty of whisky :eekicon:

Newton Stewart is 8 miles away with shops, petrol, supermarket, cafe, takeaways, etc etc. The nearest shop is Kirkcowan, but its a small village shop/Post Office with the stress on small and I don't think it was licensed.. One pub in Kirkcowan too that was shut when I went through but would appear to do food. It does do B&B.

Some photos of the campsite.

we can have a spit roast

Undercover area at the "ranch house" - just the verandah

the facilities - lit by candles at night

Never realised I'd joined such a liberal forum.
and did you read the bit on the campsite website about the working stocks that are the footboard of the bed in the roundhouse. ;)

Hi Austin

I am trying to come down, but just for the camping, not the forestry.

Do I book the campsite for myself?

That would be great. No need to book the site, just rock up and pitch up. If anyone asks say you are with me. I will collect the fees and I think I forgot to say I have got a discounted rate for the weekend. £10 instead of £12.50.

Due to a change in family commitments I think I will be able to attend, if there is still space?
I will be able to confirm tomorrow after finalising a few things, if there's space that is.
