How to help a friend?

My best mate (best man at my wedding) was diagnosed with Hodgkinsons lymphona cancer. He was absolutely bricking it. When he went to the consultant after referral from his doctor he had his consultation session and was told the time frames for his treatment which were month's away. He then asked if the guy would see him privately and he went back later that day and paid £600. After that he was progressed rapidly through the NHS system under the personal care of the consultant. He felt better because this consultant seemed to pay him special attention and following the treatment programme has been clear ever since. Everything was clearly explained to him and they discussed what his options were.

Possibly an option for Steve to put something positive into the equation. And before anybody bangs on about the fact we shouldn't have to pay to be treated like this then bollocks. He wanted to live and the NHS is a one track system, everyone gets the same at the same pace. He had a wife and adult kids he wanted to be around to see.

We've funded bikes for those who've had theirs stolen so why not a fund for a private consultation?
