Yeah, that. I'm fairly sure I know where my office is without the 'nav, but I even do that on the commute.

One of my usage modes is on a trip, put my intended destination for the day in the satnav, no motorways and shortest distance, and watch it say I'll be there at quarter past noon. Then make it stretch till 5 pm or thereabouts by ducking into every little interesting looking single track road I see.
I will have no idea whatsoever where I've been, I can look that up later. However I will also see roads I normally wouldn't have if I were doing this with a paper map. It is a fun way to see the country, even if you do sometimes end up all the way up a logging track in the Brecon Beacons.
