As I didn't have a definite bike up to two weeks ago I missed out on this but now I've got my new Africa Twin I could be interested in this! I threatened to do it a couple of yrs ago. I'll go look see if there's positions left.
Jim,

See pete's post below yours (and above this one :rolleyes2: ).

The TD team do offer a ticket re-sale service, but I'm sure you can come to an arrangement with Pete ;) .

If you are keen to do it, I'm planning to run down south over the course of a week, taking in some Yorkshire & Lake district trails, plus maybe some North Wales ones as well, on the way down.

TTFN,

Steve T

I'm struggling to find time for this I'm afraid, I've a 4x4 offroad gig the weekend after in the south of Scotland so I have booked off a long weekend for it and I've only three days entitlement left for this year! I've only been in my new job for three months so don't want to push them too much for time off.
I'm thinking possibly travel down on the Friday and home on the Sunday but don't know if that'll work?
Sorry can't manage a whole week Steve, tempting as it may be!
I'll have a think about it and approach my manager to see what he thinks about taking two long weekends in a row,,,,,, hmmmm,,,, I'll be in touch!

I'm not going down until late on as well.
Thinking I will come back on the Monday though.

Morning J.

I am planning to travel down country the week before, stopping off in the Yorkshire Dales for a play on the trails, then down to North Wales for a play in the dirt, eventually hitting the south of the Principality on the Thursday. Thinking of staying with family in Pontypool on the Thursday night, then riding down to the camp site at the Ancient Briton on Friday.
John is planning to be there on the Friday evening, and I'm presuming Jim will be travelling with him

I've been informed by the organisers that competitors will be issued with laminated maps covering the competition area on the Friday night. If I had OS maps of the area, I'd have them to hand on the day as well as the map provided. The one provided for the Paddy Dakar(PD) was very distorted (they'd compressed in to get the whole area onto 2 pages) and was barely legible.
I suspect that the set up for this will be similar to the PD, in that GPS use will incur penalty points, or a percentage of points acquired :rolleyes2: .
On the PD we got the grid references for the tag points on the Friday evening, which gave you ample time to plot them onto the map and set out a route for the Saturday event. The PD crew allowed riders to attempt to find the tag points from about an hour after the grid references were published, meaning a night ride for those that were either brave enough to give it a go, or they were locals. John and I went to the pub after watching the nutters setting off into the dark :thumbsupanim:

Yep J,

Wot he said
Going down on the Friday, maybe Thursday to get there for Friday  :D

Steve, I assume we are going to do the same as the PD ?
Quick look over the maps, plot a route , then go to the pub :thumbsupanim:

Worked good last time, I thought we did very well

Just a reminder to "The Team" :mockery17: that you need to register your self and your bike with the Taffy Dakar for their insurance. And you need to let them know what size T-shirt you require - not sure they'll have the "J" size, but you can but try :thumbsupanim:

Tyres bought - TKC80 front, E09 Dakar rear. Getting them fitted next month - time enough to scrub them in and test there dirt parting ability :D before the Taffy

I know I know :p

Did it tonight, after your gentle prod on the phone -- thanks for that, needed a bit of a push :D

Sooo --- a) bike still in bits with knackered clutch ( will put back together maybe at weekend )

b) Body still not fit,Sciatica getting better, (bloody sore that was) , thank god for my chiropractor  Will vow to try and get back to gym after I get shot of this recurring man flu I have

c) Same tyres I used on the Paddy, in fact , still got competition number from the PD still on the bike along with some lovely Irish mud.( must get both items off ) :cool2:

What could go possibly wrong ?? :thumbsupanim:

Looking forward to it as long as my body improves

Nice one Pardner,

Looks like you are up for it.

I'm still having fitness issues, but planning on getting it together next week, more gym stuff, staying off the skoosh, see if that helps.
If it doesn't improve, I may have to withdraw.

Took the fat bird out to have a little play, still impressed with the tyres. No squirmy arse moments

Lots of water and sandy ground.
