I see they're looking for more moderators on xrv.org.uk - any volunteers?.....

No, thought not.

Really?

Not seen that.

They had a good team.

The emphasis being on the "had".

Maybe someone finally thought they'd better do something when they realised that they had 50 members waiting for validation. DaveS has kicked this off by pointing out the 50 members waiting.

But I absolutely love this quote - " Sadly we do not have the time and resources to check on new members that need to be approved on a daily basis." So, what did they think that WE did?

Oops - " Lutin as well should be removed. The last time he performed a moderator action was the beginning of April and the last time he posted In February". Actually I posted today - couldn't help myself as two guys from this part of the world posted up about the "Iron Butt" challenge.

So, looks like I'm for the chop. Wonder if they'll ask first or just can me?

Edit: 33 views of the "we need more moderators" post and no volunteers?

Edit 2: The normal membership will never find that post - I found it hard enough to find.

Ian, I've replied in the Moderators forum - ours.

I'm still on there.

As regards the sacking of a certain mod. he was an idle git who did sod all but drink coffee and eat all the biscuits :thumbsupanim: :thumbsupanim:

While I agree that they're reaping what they've sown it's really sad that it's come to this. Some of the posts on here sound like a bit of gloating, but I may be wrong.

Agreed Mike it's a real shame that VS have allowed it to get this far, XRV was (and still could be) a great forum.

I'm sure it'll survive for a long time yet but it just doesn't have that sense of community anymore.

I hope that I didn't come across as gloating.

It's clear that vs simply do not understand the idea of "community" and have no idea how xrv works - the fact that for most day to day stuff the volunteer (unpaid, put-upon etc etc :D ) mods kept the place in order. There's a lot to do other than simply vetting new members - moving posts into the correct forums, keeping an eye on what is actually posted, trying to intervene when handbags are drawn, trying to keep a lid on the posting of links to quite clearly copyrighted material (manuals and the like), the list goes on. To simply say that "Sadly we do not have the time and resources to check on new members that need to be approved on a daily basis" is simply simply ludicrous, never mind all the other stuff that is not being done - the place is looking very untidy as posts seem to be put in any old forum.

If their other forums are as badly managed I'm amazed that they are still in business. After all, that's the only reason for their existence - to make money.

I think VS might get more interest if they gave some explanation of what being a Moderator entailed. Lutin's covered some of it above, and, presumably, there's a lot of relevant stuff hidden from us "lesser mortals" within the XRV site.
If I knew a little more, and had some insight into the "workings", I might have been interested. I have a bit of time on my hands, and feel some affection for XRV, which has served me very well in the past

Noble sentiment, Hotbulb, but you might want to find out about the VS culture before signing up.

Indeed!
I'm aware of the general lack of interest by VS, despite their voracious appetite for bike/car-related websites over the last couple of years, - their insidious introduction of advertising etc.
And am I just being a bit cynical in thinking that this matter's being discussed on a "rival" forum because VS won't entertain any "dissent" on their forum?

just being discussed here because that's where most of the old XRV mods are now :)

if it was being discussed on XRV VS wouldn't even notice

We have discussed at length in open forum and moderators section on XRV to be met with complete indifference but VS

We tried, begged, asked nicely, asked less nicely, stropped and become disheartened and left.

This was never an attempt to be a rival, we were happy at XRV and made friends, but we just aren't listened to or valued

That just about covers it.

Thanks, all ......I don't think I'll rush to sign up!
And Sharri, I know BT isn't a rival to XRV - I was in at the start of BT and remember Russ's comments at the time. And indeed I dont think of the two fora as rivals, rather as complementing each other; XRV as the technical resource, and BT for the social etc side of things. And as most of the "Old Guard" still seem to frequent both, I suspect I'm not alone.

Such a shame VS don't recognise what an asset they have in XRV, and its members and (particularly) mods.

Well I'm a little sad that that XRV is potentially going to the wall, which is what will happen I guess if the Mods are non existent.

If I had the time and tech experience, I would certainly help out. I can see that the owners aren't helping which is a shame.
The issue with adverts, I must admit, didn't bother me at all, maybe its just my thick Teuchter skin hitting in, but I don't see what all the fuss is about with the adverts.

Oh well I suppose all good things must come to an end at some point, pity though. :(
