Hi peeps here's what I posted on CRF forum regarding the bike
I had an issue yesterday. 1100 ATAS DCT ES. Bike is new to me done 6000 miles. When travelling at 60 mph in the outside lane of a motorway (heavy traffic), dry weather all day, the engine cut out, the DCT disengaged and I was able to freewheel to a safe place, screen stayed on. Engine and oil light on, DCT showing still in 5th gear. When ignition turned back on a strange sound like the starter trying to engage but not 4-5 clicks then stopped. No engine turning over. Looked in the book but no information. Rear wheel able to spin back and forward. After a while of switching on and off and hiding for cover in the torrential rain that had now started! (Scotland), each time I switched on the gear position had moved down 4,3,2 then N. The bike started up. I rang the nearest Honda dealer, they said to bring it in and they could do a code read. 3 codes came up
112-1 Power Train CAN communication DT DCT
U0 19E-00 CAN Communication Malfunction (PTCAN) PGM-FI
P1712-00 TCM CPU Malfunction PGM-FI
The dealer cleared/reset and test rode the bike. No issues, I had no issues after the bike started up. They recommended a full diagnostic to see why all of these happened at exactly the same time. I decided to head for home
They could not tell what had happened but did tell me the system as they described it has had a scare causing these major faults, stored the codes and reset itself, which is why I was able to start it up and ride again. I rode 330 miles home through extremely heavy rain for 2 hrs then normal rain for a further 2 hrs. No issues at all. I'll book it in with a local Honda and update this when I have any information.
A big shout out to Victor Devine Motorcycles (Glasgow) who were accommodating and there for me when I needed the reassurance. Fitted me in for a code read and were very hospitable. Thanks guys.
Also, thanks to Jonathan at Rugged Roads who was on the phone to me and looking at all sources to find any similar issue and how it was resolved. Both he and Chad recommended getting to the nearest Honda dealer
The bike is great, I love it to bits. Technology is my fear. I don't have these issues with my other Africa Twins
It would appear this is now a global issue that Honda recognise and are starting a recall

Gutted I could not get to see you all. By the time Honda had cleared it and test rode it the time was 5.00 pm. Getting out of Glasgow town centre was slow going and by the time I got to the A814 to M8 the torrential rain had started. All the advice I got was to try and get home. I agreed with this. I would not have wanted a break down to spoil any one else's weekend. I'll put an update when I have it resolved.
See you all soon
