NC 500 / Country file

Anybody watch this tonight ?

Not sure if you suvverners can get it , if not get it on yon playback thingy that BBC do :D

Anyways, very good, they highlighted the NC 500, basically starting off in my home town and , er , going round the top of Scotland and er, returning again :D

Worth a watch, showed part of the route over the Beallach and bits of the Black Isle across the Firth from me.
Also has a very good bit about crofting in the HIghlands which I thought was spot on

Maybe give some of you guys an idea about doing the loop, done it in bits and bobs over the years, stunning scenery , never did it in one go, mmmmmm . Maybe a job for a summers day :D

That cyclist guy did it in a day and a half on a push bike :respect:

Any one up for it ?

Yup saw it and in normal country file style it was a bit over-sentimental and romanticised. But nice to see some good Scottish scenery and weather. I had hail like that over the Beallach in June!! And yes, I would be up for a day's blast around the NC500 in a day.

Clockwise or anticlockwise? Clockwise I reckon - sun on my back going north sounds better that squinting into the sun. Oh, hang on, its Scotland..... :D

Just in & missed it, found a repeat & set to record.

II'd be up for it, time depending. Anticlockwise please as I've done (most of) it clockwise twice :)

Yep, saw that. Makes me want to do it again. Well, the bits I've done before again.

Though I do wonder if the promotion of the route will bring out the muppets in their cars (mostly hire cars driven by tourists not used to narrow roads and driving on the left) like our own Wild Atlantic Way? I was quite happy that the grockles didn't know the routes as they were nice and quite - just the locals. Now they've put up hoards of new signs pointing the way for anyone to follow. It's just not the same anymore........ ;)

[Grouch Mode OFF} :D

Putting it on Country File is not good - now even more people know about it. Luckily the weather during her ride over the hill may put others off.
I get a bit annoyed when I get interrupted by slow traffic between Ullapool and Kylesku!

yup I am up for this a day...

Austin knowing our luck will be the summer.. that one sunny day we tell folk we have sun up here

Yip up for this will make it one of my long weekend passes. Now does it say anything about this collective the majority was watching country file .....

Sent from my rotary phone using fat fingers

Mother BBC refuses to allow ferriners to watch programs on-line even though the Scotland episode is clearly available to you folks. And don't get me started on McDonalds free WiFi, helmet off in gas stations and other nonsense..................hmpfh.

Anyway, since I can't watch it myself, does anyone have a map, or key points so I can visualize the route for myself? (I'm always daydreaming of new adventures).

Thanks

Nick

There you are. Basically a loop around the far north of Scotland following the coast where possible.

The BBC programme had a rather attractive blonde presenter cycling up the Beallach na Ba (highest road in UK) in a hailstorm, and some other features from around the route. I can only remember the bit with the blonde in ;).

It's a marketing thing by Scottish Tourist Board in reality.

Thanks Austin. Through the graces and geekiness if Lutin, I have been able to connect to a UK server which fools the BBC into thinking I live in London.

It looks like a terrific ride on a motorbike (actually, I've even done parts of it decades ago on my old Panther and my BSA Royal Star, one so easily forgets.... ) and certainly one I'd like to do now. Perhaps after the Yukon.....and perhaps when the traffic is light and the weather is suitable grim :rolleyes2: .

BTW my rewiring job on the Eldorado is complete. Everything even works, which, in itself is a minor miracle  .

Glad to help, Nick.

Just don't complain to me over the standard of some BBC programmes. ;)

Compared to our normal fare, it's generally superb! We just finished the "Shetland" series on Netflicks - most excellent.

PS Along with Austin, I liked the presenter, although 'English girls they're so prissy, I can't stand them on the telephone......'

Well, this has the makings of a thoroughly good day out :D

Maybe too far for one day however, ( I hear Raymo groan already :D ) --- ok for you sunshine, I'm sure you have a leather ass

Due to popular demand, we shall go anti clockwise, ie up North and then west
I'll look at it again at the start of the year, maybe slot in a weekend somewhere along the way.

Sooooo, who's up for it ?

Gwan gwan , you know you want to :thumbsupanim:

Would love to take part.

We shall see what transpires as it will need a bit of planning - tedious things like ferries and such. ;)
