Out at 8AM this morning to take one of these Min-Coopers to the Vintage show at Thirlestane Castle in Lauder.

The one on the left is the one I drove, John's wife took her one on the right and John's everyday car, the red one is something special. It's 52 years old, double overhead cam, 16 valve, fuel injected with 130 brake horse and a lorryload of torque!
After spending about half an hour in the queue to get in and set up I took off for a walk around to see some of the sights.
Thirlestane Castle, actually more of a posh old house than a castle.

Renault 8 Gordini, not many of them about now.

Boring old MGB GT, but it belongs to John's brother so I had to take a pic in case he got upset.

The engine in this Lagonda was stunning.

DeLoreans? like buses, never see one for long enough and then there are three at once.

I did ask the Prof if he could take me back to the sixties, but he said there was not enough room to get up to speed.
Quite a few military vehicles there as well.

Nice E-type Jaguar.

And what I was led to beleive is a genuine Shelby Cobra.

Along with some other American stuff.

What you looking at!

Probably this................BMW i8, bloody gorgeous, much better looking than the row of Aston Martins behind it, INMO.

And that was how I spent Sunday, hope you like the pictures.

Andy.

Great pics there, Andy.

Were you not tempted to recreate the Italian Job with those threes Minis? :D

That Ariel trials bike looks a nice example. Not sure that I'd ever be able to do it justice mind. ;)

And the Ducati's not bad either.

Nice day out! (Mine consisted mainly of shifting furniture)
Strange to see the deLoreans - I bumped into an old mate about an hour ago in Morrisons supermarket- he's looking for a retirement project in a couple of years, and a deLorean is high on his list! Apparently there are a few around for about £12000. :eekicon:

Must be an age thing --- every time I go to one of these shows, I stick my head in the window and inhale the lovely strong odour of REAL leather :D
Brings me back to a time when reclining seats were a must for a bit of " rumpy pumpy " :D

Yon old bench seats were so damn uncomfortable

Nice one Andy, thanks for posting, looks like you had a good day for it. Bought the wife a Mini Cooper years ago, then first sibling came along and that stuffed it. Great little car, went round the corners like it was on rails, but compared to modern cars, no comparison.

Except it had loads of charisma which the modern day cars do not have.

The Mini's have to be the best. Got a thing for them. Brilliant engineering, built in rust, leaky gear box selector seals, wiper motor which fails and the contorsionist byepass hose. Just love mini's

Hmm, Mini Coopers, nice.

I was highly surprised I could actually fit behind the wheel of one. They're certainly a lot roomier than they look.

I think i found Armstrong among military vehicles in one picture, nice :)
