Unusual or improbable tools

Have you used any unusual or improbable tools whilst fettling you bike? I'll start the ball rolling with a Krupps Turbo 1200 Touring, which is.....

... the wife's hair dryer! :D

Useful for warming the ends of the replacement radiator hose in order to make fitting easier.

Who's next?

I splashed out £1 and brought a hair dryer from Oxfam to use it the garage, however not hot enough to reshape plastic mudguards.

I've used an oil filter spanner to adjust my ignition. Not very improbable but it's the best I can think of right now.

Ofcourse, if we're talking unusual or improbable tools, this one can't go amiss: :D

Oh no! Vader with tools . . . . .
We both know you typed that incorrectly Andy :D and that the "tool" in question is holding the screwdriver :eekicon: :thumbsupanim: ;)

As a youngster (14-15)I used to annoy my Dad by riding a Philips Gadabout moped around the lawn: my workbench, such as it was, consisted of a clamp-on vice attached to an old wooden ironing-board (fortunately one which Mum had discarded!)

Yes that ironing board was discarded, the mesh of the ironing surface was rusty and had got holes in it

Oh the indignity of it all ----- photographed with a can of John Smith's in my hand.

Mind you, seeing Vader " trying" to undo a screw was fekin hilarious.
The man has no mechanical skills whatsoever :D

I have a small, right angle, mole wrench with smooth jaws. Made by Facom, i have no idea what it's supposed to be for but I use it a lot for clamping hoses etc or as a an adjustable spanner if i just need to hold a bolt head or something. I carry it in my bike tool kit on longer trips and it came into it's own when the clutch cable snapped at the nipple at the lever end . Hop! facom locking thingy and some cable ties = makeshift gear lever

Which reminds me... These are really really nice too:

Knipex pliers wrench. Bit like a typical water pump thing but it's got smooth surfaces and the beak halves stay parallell to each other. Works better at not destroying bolt heads than a typical open ended spanner as there's no play so you actually use the sides instead of the corners of the head. Works well on rounded bolt heads too.

I've got the 180mm for the on-bike toolkit and a 300mm at home in the garage. Costs a bit, but it's really nice kit.
