Bought the 9er about a month ago Phil. I've still got the Mk1 for the moment.
That's proper HDR which can yield some very subtle results, like your Blea Tarn pic. I tend to use software called Photomatix Pro for most HDR work and, if I've not bracketed, create a series of different exposures through Photoshop from the one image (actually I use Levels adjustments rather than Exposure). However, my images above were done on the iPad using Snapseed (free app).

I had to Google HDR too,I've had this one a long time. It's not my own and I can't remember where I got it but I have it on one of my monitors as a desktop pic. I think it really gives an "impression of the heat of the event "
