Any of you lot ever been pulled for standing up on the pegs whilst negotiating bumpy bits of public road ?

Tomorrow, I have to go see a Maltese cop, that saw me standing on the pegs as I was going over an undulating stretch of Maltese public tarmac.

show him youtube of the Dakar and point out this is how the professionals deal with rough terrain

Never been stopped. Even do it on long rides at speed puts blood back in your lower body. Just be polite and ask him his reasons. Then you could go into the science and say you where lowering your center of balance so the bike feels more stable riding on undulated ground.

Wow, weird sort of coincidence, was chatting yesterday to a friend of mine who's a UK cop and about to move to Malta....

My advice would be to try and pass the attitude test. Something along the lines of trying to 'better admire his beautiful Maltese scenery that we can only dream of back home' etc, etc.

Unless, of course, you're used to the beautiful Welsh valleys eh OhJ?

No idea about non-UK roads and procedures etc... but if this happened to me in the UK then I'd be confident that I could explain my reasons.

I've never heard of anyone being done over here for it? I do it all the time.

Think the only issue would be not being able to see in the mirrors.
Not a problem if you haven't got any, mirrors that is

Oh, I stand on the pegs all the time
Even overtook a cop car whilst standing on the pegs just outside Portree, no issues.

Consider locating on YouTube some footage of motorcycle police doing the exact same thing. He would implicitly be criticisinga fellow cop if he were to book you.

Deep potholes, cobbles, really rough farm tracks - perhaps. Most of the time it's .....(edit) unnecessary. I've ridden thousands of miles on unpaved roads and had to stand on the pegs perhaps half a dozen times for a few really rough sections. It's not the bloody Dakar! (IMHO)

Whatever :D

I'm not a poseur , I just find it easier on me nuts if I stand up .
I mean, most of the cattle grid crossings up here are that low, it pays to stand up
