Thailand Anyone?

We lived in Northern Thailand, Jungwat Nan in the early 1980's as I was working for the UNHCR at Sob Tuang refugee camp. I had a 175 Suzuki trail bike, shorts, no helmet and flip flops, all dirt roads, very little tarmac. The whole family used to ride the bike, daughter 2 years old on the tank between my arms, daughter 4 yrs old behind me and wife on the back. I am afraid that wouldn't be possible now as additional girth would necessitate a much longer seat!

I've done a bit of riding out of Chiang Mai in Northern Thailand. I love it there, good riding, good food, great scenery and all at an affordable price.

Anyone that is thinking about it needs to stop thinking and start doing :thumbsupanim:

I can also highly recommend a few other places in the world but they are more worrying for some. Thailand, you instantly feel at ease there, no major worries and great trip. simples

Boris, why if only?

I think you'd be surprised how affordable it is for a trip.

I wouldn't say there were no major worries, from the Guardian 23 Feb 2014: 'Thirty wounded at shooting at street market in eastern Thailand as political violence intensifies' . OK, perhaps its just a little local difficulty . . . .

I've been to Thailand many times, always renting a bike - often just a step through. Travelled down to Malaysia and on another trip up into Laos, to Luang Prabang, but never to Chhang Mai. Brotheer in Law left today, bound for Udon so the travel itch has returned. (We're only one week back from Sri Lanka!)

And yes, Boris, it is very doable. Get out there.

Because I'm stuck on the wheel of drudgery providing for all the little millstones in my life.

One day... One day
