I think we can all go through phases when we spend more time pi$$ing about with bikes & searching for the next 'ideal bike' rather than riding 'em - been through a bit of that myself lately......!

I don't hop on the bike for a solo bimble anymore, as I find myself not enjoying it as much as I once did, however bike meets, trips and holidays or using the bike for an a-b purpose is where I get the enjoyment nowadays.
Well that & the tinkering ;)

Look back at which bits of biking you enjoy most & take that road, so to speak :)

Hang on, it's not like me to be all philosophical. ...

I think you need something new to rekindle the enthusiasm. Riding the same old roads to the same old places to see the same old people on the same old bikes does get a bit tiresome and you soon end up wondering why bother. It's the same in the garage, yet another service, stuck rusty awkward to reach fasteners in a cold damp garage with tools that have seen better days and its not surprising we easily get fed up.

If the new bike doesn't do it for you sell them both and get something very different and then get a few trips planned to places you have never been to meet some new people.

Or plan rideouts for Bigtrailliet - part of the reason I organise the ones I do is to get me out doing recce runs to places I want to go but need a bit of am excuse and reason to be there rather than just random riding around.

See you on August on the pennine run.

I think of biking as something of an addiction. For me, it doesn't make sense to want to ride. I don't really have the time, it eats up any spare cash that I might otherwise have to spend on (arguably) more important things, and yes, whatever we might kid ourselves, there is an element of danger (as I've recently seen all too vividly). BUT although I go for long stretches when I'm not able to get out on the bike, and do have thoughts about whether I should just pack it all in, the urge to get out and ride is always lurking in the background. And the minute I do so is the minute that I know I don't ever want to give it up (until I'm too old to get my leg over any more that is :( ).

So I'd agree with everyone else's advice - get out and ride and you'll soon get over those doubts.

Oh and nice bike, by the way :thumbsupanim:

You will find that even when you get to our age, you're never too old . . . .

Yep. Go out and ride that thing. Enjoy the sun and the breeze or whatever local weather you have instead.

If you're not going to ride those bikes, send me one. I'm going nuts on my involuntary temporary exile from biking. Trains are a lot easier to handle if there's snow on the ground, even if they are packed like sardines then...

You are more than welcome to borrow the R65 but it may be a bit of a trek for you to collect it. Serious offer if you are stuck.

That is a really handsome offer, thank you. But yeah. Bit of a trek. :)

I should really stop whinging and just give 'em another phone call about what's going on. It should be done sometime soon anyway, probably next week. I'm more worried about the repair costs than about it taking too long. ;)

(edited to add: Another one for the "this place is great" warm fuzzies list, by the way. :thumbsupanim: )

Chin up Andy, it's just a phase you're going through. I'm a bit like it myself at the moment, just can't be arsed but the recent trip to the bike show has given me a wee boost.

oh yeah, the other thing that might help is go and spend some serious money on some new bike gear - helmet boots or whatever. The more you use them the better value for money they will be. And I know how that appeals to those north of the border. ;)

I know how you feel mate, that Tiger I had almost ended it all for me. I considered a major change, involving four whhels, or at best, maybe go on to a Pan European, change of scene from the big trailie type bikes and the people who had sneered at my major downer.
I think it's been a long winter, this year hasn't started quite so well, and after a winter of riding myself I don't feel as sociable as I used to be so this year might be a decider for me as well.
But,,,
Agree with Austin, having a purpose for using your bike is one way forward. I'm actually going to look at another two tomorrow, dunno why,,,, just feel like it! It's a reason to go out for a ride.
Back to the purpose, if you fancy a weekend up here in the Spey valley, give me a shout mate, we've a spare room, off street parking, and as long as I cook and keep Fiona away from the kitchen ye'll no get poisoned! LOL!
I've one of the finest collections of single malts in Scotland and you're welcome to sample a few. This is a serious offer Andy, if you need an excuse to use one of yer bikes just let me know when you're free, tour up on the Friday evening, stay until Sunday, head home a happy man.
Hopefully we'll have a decent summer and put this nonsense behind us mate.

Thanks Jim, I think I am over the worst now and I will be going out on the bike later today. :) That said, I will keep your kind offer in mind and one day I may just take you up on it. :thumbsupanim:

I'm suffering from being time poor. I really could do with a local mechanic to do a load of jobs for me that have been lined up for ages.

Have you tried enticing him with biscuits? He's off the diet and marathon training :D

Andy.

So, are you going to reconsider your tour of Ireland? As I said earlier, I'd be more than happy to show you some of the rather less travelled bits of the Connemara.
