Back up. Backup!

Just a subtle reminder to back up your devices!

This, after my phone went kaput sometime early Friday morning, taking with it 250+ pics, a few contacts, various notepad and calendar info plus other bits & bobs....
Then the hassle of rigging up a temporary phone, sourcing a new one then setting everything back up.
Yeah, of course I had all my passwords wrote down..... :/

learnt my lesson when my laptop got stolen from work a year or so back. I back up onto usb sticks when updating stuff and current usage, to docs folder to skydrive regularly and the whole shebang to a hard drive when I think of it. it's SUCH a PITA when you have to start all over again...

Phil, are you sure the photos aren't on the memory card?
My phone puts them there by default.

I'm probably paranoid, but most things are backed up to at least one (of two) NAS boxes, and the pictures to a giant USB stick, too. And I very rarely remember to format camera cards, so most of the pics are there too. I've never yet had a phone with a good camera, and any pics I do take with it tend to be mailed to "me" anyway. ..... I've never quite got the hang of, or been convinced of the benefits of, this "cloud" business ;). ( The paranoia probably explains why I've usually got 3 PCs on the go, and also why I keep buying tools - which duplicate perfectly good ones I already have. Oh, won't my daughters have fun going through my "effects" when I'm gone!). Back in the 70's my grandfather still had spares for gas lamps in his shed ..."just in case".

And being in IT myself I've learnt all of these lessons over the years both on a personal and commercial basis.

A backup is only as good as the last time it was tested is another key one.
